Breathing through the feet premieres at National Arts Festival
Today, our short film Breathing through the feet premieres at the National Arts Festival Makhanda, South Africa.
Breathing through the feet is a call and response film directed by Sibusiso Mkhize and featuring autobiographical poetry and improvised responses in the body by actors Nomvuyo Buthelezi, Moeketsi Kgotle and Nonhlanhla Precious Masombuka. It is a part-performance art film and part-documentation of performance-based Indigenous language revitalisation.
The project captures my postdoctoral performance as research project Decolonising language ideologies in the body at the University of the Witwatersrand in 2021.
Click here to watch the film for free until the 3rd July 2022.
More info on this project can be read here on my blog and in forthcoming publications.
